Why A Publishing FAQ?

TIM Publishing  is a Music Publishing Company owned by Chris Tomlin and Jason Ingram.

One of our primary goals is to create and distribute life-giving music through our collective of songwriters.

Now, how is this done? Why does the music business need publishing companies? Are publishing companies and record labels one and the same, or fundamentally different? How does the publishing company make money? Who owns the copyrights?

These are questions we found are frequently asked. There is a lot of speculation and misinformation about how the music industry works, and many people are moving away from the industry due to the growing confusion around it. 

Given this reality, we have found it imperative that we do our part by sharing what lies behind the curtain of mystery and laying out a clear motive for what the publishing industry accomplishes and is about.
